I latched onto the internet in the late 90s and taught myself visual and UI design in the amateur web design scene — including how to make it purposeful and systems-driven, which is still how I work.
My career started in consumer products: smartphones, e-readers, smartwatch wearables. More recently I've joined high-impact B2B startups and brought design thinking to problems that had been solved by engineers alone.

Audit before adding
Catalogue the debt first. It's how a single designer gets a whole product into their head and starts fixing things at the level of the system.

Scope small, but verifiable
Break a north star into milestones small enough to learn from and big enough to matter, and agree how you'll measure them before you start.

Ship it, then watch it
Real usage overrules the familiar pattern. I've replaced my own shipped work more than once because the data said the layout was wrong.

Learn the domain before writing the label
In technical products the copy is the interface. You can't explain something clearly to a user until you genuinely understand it yourself.
